Behavior Based Safety is based upon the proven principles of Organizational Behavior Management

    This course will teach you how to manage the comprehensive safety functions in your workplace that will lead to the establishment of a true safety culture in your workforce. Topics include everything from the expected "Regulatory Compliance" to today's news headlines "Disaster Recovery" to the cutting edge of Workplace Safety, "Behavior Based Safety"

    Behavior Based Safety

    In the Behavior Based Safety section of the course you will learn about the research and science behind Organizational Behavior Management from which Behavior Based Safety was developed. You will understand the principles, the terminology and the application of Behavior Based Safety. You will learn about the relationships between the worker and the workplace and how to mold these relationships to improve knowledge, skills, motives, and attitudes, resulting in a true safety culture. You will gain the skills necessary to make an initial assessment of your workplace to determine your site specific application of Behavior Based Safety and to make periodic assessments to monitor your success. You will come to understand the impact of behavior upon safety including at-risk behaviors, supervision and behavior, communication and behavior, how memories affect behavior, the effects of peer pressure, accountability, activators, consequences, and motivation.

    You will learn how to apply the principles of Behavior Based Safety and how to win the support of employees and management. Topics include worker adapted safety programs, observation, focus behaviors, attitudes, perceptions, self-directed behavior, critical behaviors, antecedents, feedback, coaching, barriers, targeted behaviors, incentives and rewards, working committees, and measuring success.

    Regulatory Compliance

    The Regulatory Compliance section of the course offers an eye opening overview of what regulatory compliance is and what it is not. You will explore OSHA, EPA, DOT and other regulatory agencies with an eye toward ensuring your regulatory compliance and coordinating your regulatory compliance with the other facets of your Integrated Safety Management System.

    Plans, Programs, Policies, and Procedures

    The Plans, Programs, Policies, and Procedures portion of the course explains the various regulatory requirements for plans, programs, policies, and procedures and discusses their proper development. It also delves into methods to merge similar plans. The course discusses the organization of the needed plans, programs, policies, and procedures and how to mesh them into your Integrated Safety Management System.

    Safety Audits

    The Safety Audits section provides an in depth study of the various means of analyzing your workplace in order to discover all hazards and potential hazards. This section begins with an explanation of hazard analysis including job hazard analysis, change analysis, process hazard analysis, phase hazard analysis, and the hierarchy of hazard controls. Safety audits continues with workplace safety inspections including planning, reporting, and monitoring of inspections for hazards and potential hazards. The third part of safety audits, accident investigation, then covers collecting data, analyzing data, root cause analysis, judgments of need, and reporting the results.
